Light-weight multispectral UAV sensors and their capabilities for predicting grain yield and detecting plant disease
Researchers from FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland investigated the performance of light-weight multispectral sensors for micro UAVs and their application in agronomical research and agricultural practice. Their study employed a senseFly eBee drone and the cameras employed included Airinov’s multiSPEC 4C.
Generating highly accurate 3D data using a senseFly albris drone
In this exclusive project senseFly albris drones were used to conduct two photogrammetric land surveys of a construction site, using ground control points (GCPs). The results show that 3D point clouds produced with an albris can reach a global precision comparable to a typical total station survey and, as such, meet the typical accuracy requirements of construction projects.
eBee RTK Accuracy Assessment
This goal of this product whitepaper was to validate senseFly’s eBee RTK absolute accuracy claims (3 cm horizontal, 5 cm vertical) by completing a range of flights in different flight modes. The results validated senseFly’s claims. Even in less-than-ideal flight conditions, the eBee RTK was proven to still achieve reach a high standard of reliability, in line with an operator might expect from using a standard (non RTK) eBee alongside ground control points.

In this Taiwanese study, RGB and NIR sensors carried on a senseFly drone were applied to the trophic state mapping of Tain-Pu reservoir. According to the authors, “The experimental results indicate that the MPP method can lead to better regression models than the average method”.

Swinglet CAM exploring the Medieval City of Merv, on the Silk Roads of Central Asia

This paper presents an interesting use case of the swinglet CAM for an archaeological project where the use of satellite or photogrammetry airplanes was not satisfying. It demonstrates and discusses how to create effective digital terrain models (DTM) of intricate city surface landscapes with shallow mounds and depressions.
Photogrammetric Performance of an Ultralightweight Swinglet UAV

This paper is the first one to systematically compare results obtained with a swinglet CAM + Postflight Service powered by Pix4D to those obtained with a professional LIDAR carried onboard a manned helicopter. The main conclusion is that the accuracy of the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) based on swinglet CAM images taken at 150m height is in the range of 10-15cm.

This paper provides a description of the algorithms developed by Pix4D that are underlying the automatic 3D reconstruction of scenes using images taken by the swinglet CAM. It also shows how the accuracy of the resulting 2D and 3D maps varies in function of the altitude.
Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) for Volume Estimation

This Honors College Thesis examines how stereo imagery obtained from a small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS), the senseFly eBee, can be usedto respond to natural disasters by estimating volumes - such as the amount of material needed to rebuild and repair damaged infrastructure - in a safe, inexpensive, and accurate manner, "on a par with terrestrial LiDAR sensor technology".

Chief Executive Officer (Co-founder)
Jean-Christophe is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the company. He is a bona fide pioneer in the field of small, bio-inspired, autonomous flying robots, holding a PhD in Mobile Robotics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) - where he has taught and managed numerous robotics projects - as well as an MSc in Micro Engineering, the thesis for which he completed at Carnegie Mellon University in the US. A Swiss national, Jean-Christophe has also studied entrepreneurship and management, and he is a licensed pilot with a passion for flying helicopters and aerobatics.
Chief Technical Officer (Co-founder)
Antoine is the head of senseFly’s R&D team, responsible for the technical development of senseFly’s drones and accessories. A Swiss national, he holds a PhD in Micro-Engineering from EPFL, Lausanne, and is an expert in aerial robotics and embedded software programming. Antoine boasts more than a decade’s experience in bringing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from concept to reality, both as a founding member of senseFly, and prior to that, as an independent software developer and research assistant at the EPFL. Like Jean-Christophe, Antoine is an avid aviator and holds a private pilot licence.
Head of Marketing and Sales (Co-founder)
As the person in charge of senseFly’s commercial activities, Andrea oversees the company’s marketing and sales teams. Born in Germany, Andrea is a qualified land surveyor and holds a degree in Geodesy Engineering from Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. She boasts several years of international product management experience having worked at Vectronix, a Swiss manufacturer of observation, orientation and distance measurement devices, as a Customer Support Engineer, Application Engineer and Program Manager, before heading to RUAG Aerospace, where she held the position of Sales and Program Manager.
Chief Of Operations (Co-founder)
As head of senseFly’s production and industrialisation departments, Cyril is responsible for transforming R&D prototypes into market-ready drones and accessories that meet Switzerland’s high quality standards. He holds a MSc in Physics from EPFL, Lausanne, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Flight Dynamics from Cranfield University. An active fixed-wing and rotary pilot, Cyril also holds a commercial pilot licence, plus he is also a graduate of the elite Empire Test Pilot School (ETPS) in Boscombe Down, UK, and he served as a helicopter Flight Test Engineer for the Swiss government before joining senseFly in 2013. A Swiss national, he brings extensive business development experience, having driven the infrared business of Vectronix for several years.
Chief Financial Officer
Roxanne joined senseFly in 2014 and as is responsible for the company’s financial strategy and organisation. A dynamic leader with several years of experience in progressive organisations across North America and EMEA, she previously held the roles of Finance Director at Snowide SA, VP of Finance and Administration at Playground Intrawest, and worked as an auditor for both HSBC Bank and the Canadian Government. Originally from Canada, Roxanne is a CPA, CMA, and holds a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Quebec.
